If you’re a student wanting to familiarise yourself with the fresh music scene in Portsmouth, look no further than local emo and shoegaze band Sven. They are soon to perform at The Wave Maiden on Friday 17th November after the recent announcement of their next single ‘Disdain’. Tickets are available here for only £3.00- be quick as there is limited space!
To introduce this incredible quartet, Sven is made up of Steve (vocals/guitar), Joe (bass/vocals), Jesse (guitar), and George (drums). They formed back in 2017 and released their debut EP ‘Seventeen’ at the beginning of this year. Since then, Sven have made no mistake in defining themselves in Portsmouth’s rock scene – from a successful first local gig at The Festing (Southsea), to supporting established acts such as Touché Amoré and Gender Roles at the famous Wedgewood Rooms. Fans of Basement, Balance and Composure, and Teenage Wrist would not want to miss out on this event!
‘Disdain’ will be the second official release from Sven via their new label with Blindreader Records UK, and will be available to stream from 2nd November 2018 on Spotify and Apple Music.
So, what to expect? On this record, Sven have taken a slightly different direction from their bittersweet lyrics and slower melodies, yet still resonant of sincere emotions and fuzziness captured throughout ‘Seventeen’. ‘Disdain’ brings out brighter guitars with influence from the 90s grunge era; it is one of Sven’s catchiest tracks released so far, as well as a defining track for the next step of their music journey. It is evident that their level of persistent professionalism and hard work has undoubtedly lead to Sven produce their greatest music to date.
