The Top 5 Playstation Games You Need To Play

Greeting’s fellow Playstation owners, or potential buyers of the console which is approximately in the hands of forty million owners worldwide. With the lack of big hitting titles such as Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5 and Mass Effect Andromeda which are delayed until 2017, i felt it would be nice to highlight 5 games you need to play to keep you going through the drought.

5. The Witcher 3 – Wild Hunt

A Open World Action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt RED, The Witcher 3 is a master class in story telling; whilst also being fun and generating good will throughout the gaming world with DLC content either free or well worth it’s price tag. Steeped in Germanic and Polish mythology, Geralt of Rivia is the professional monster hunter tasked with doing the extermination jobs no one else can handle. Filled with decision making, obsessively unique quests, great mechanics, beautiful aesthetics and an amazing soundtrack, this game is easily one hundred plus hours which is not even accounting for the DLC content(which you can get in the Game of The Year Edition). If unlike myself (a trophy hunter) you are willing the invest the time, you are buying a fantastic game which will easily take you past the 100 hour playtime providing real value for money.

4. Resogun

Resogun is a 2013 voxel-based side-scrolling shoot ’em up game developed by Finnish developer Housemarque and is exclusive to the Playstation platform. An arcade game which out performs many AAA titles with ease, Resogun is a key example of “mechanics are king” in the gaming context. Simple, addictive and ridiculously fun the game heavily inspired by Defender and Datastorm is a must play for anyone who cares about games beyond the visuals, and will open the doors to other fantastic Housemarque games such as Dead Nation.

This place was a hard choice as in the first person shooter space Wolfenstien could also easily had been here, however DOOM by ID Software just take the place due to the games fantastic implementation of old school systems in to a 2016 game. Now with this recommendation i am excluding the multiplayer element as unfortunately it isn’t great more than generic, but wow does that single player just blow me away. DOOM guy has returned and as always he only cares about one thing (killing absolutely anything demonic), and with old school mechanics such as an emphasis on strafing and non-regenerating health combined with new mechanics such as glory kills and jumping platforms, trust me when i say this game is extremely satisfying to play. The story on the surface is basic but also contains very detailed story elements in the menus to prevent intrusion, DOOM manages to hit a great balance of fun and challenging whilst also cleverly prompting you to use all the games weapons and mechanics in order to successfully fight of hell’s legion.

2. Rocket League

Football and rocket powered cars, sounds terrible right? No… you’re wrong. The vehicular football/soccer video game developed and published by Psyonix is another example of “mechanics are king” with ludicrously addictive game play and mechanics which are easy to play but difficult to master. Using rocket boosters on your car to soar, flip and defend, you will enjoy the pure moments of bliss and rage from your amazing goals or poor defending prompting you on a quest to continuously perfect yourself so you can ruin peoples day with a six-nil scoreline. This game is so good not only did it far exceed Psyonix’s expectations but is also popular on the pro gaming scene, giving you absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t check out this game as i would challenge you not to have a good time with your friends.

The Last of Us.

Now to people who have played Last of Us, 99.9% think it is a masterpiece and everyone else either have not played it or is in the huge minority. I still honestly can not believe i know people who have not played this game! It should be considered criminal not to do so at this point, being bombarded with 10/10 ratings and awards from almost every respectable gaming media outlet praising it as a masterpiece. Naughty Dog is a game developer who is a true contender for best in the world as absolutely no one else can nail story, pacing and impact like they can which is exampled by Last of Us. An action-adventure survival horror video game set in a post apocalyptic world, you will follow Joel and Ellie through their struggles against the zombie like “infected” and humans alike combining a masterclass in story writing and voice acting. This is the Playstation exclusive that has no rival, and in my opinion really had an impact on a Zelda or Mario level, setting a gold standard in game play and especially story telling.

Your game not in this list, leave a comment and let me know what you would replace and why!
